ISLAMABAD, 19 April: Internews Pakistan, a media assistance organization, has announced Internews Humanitarian Reporting Award for best news media reports from earthquake affected areas. The award has been constituted by Internews Pakistan staff. A total of six awards of different categories are meant for Pakistani media and journalists only to be decided by an eight member committee comprising eminent journalists from newspapers, radio and TV. The award committee members are M. Ziauddin, Dawn; Mian Sohail Iqbal, Online; Tariq Warsi, Daily Azkar; Rana Tahir, Daily Jang; Fahd Hussain, The News; Javed Siddiqui, Nawa-e-Waqt; Mohsin Raza, ARYOne world; Najeeb Ahmed, Power FM 99. The awards, to be announced on the press freedom day, will be granted in six categories:
  1. Best English Newspaper report  
  2. Best Urdu Newspaper report
  3. Best Newspaper photograph
  4. Best TV news report
  5. Best TV camera work
  6. Best radio news report
The awards nominations must reach Mr. Matiullah Jan, Media Law and Policy Advisor, Internews Pakistan, # 6-B, St-31, F-7/1, Islamabad by April 29, 2006 (Thursday) with envelop mentioning the award category the nomination is for. The nominated work should be published or broadcast in Pakistani news media during the first 100 days of October 8, 2005 earthquake, i.e, till January 15, 2006. One person can be nominated for one story only.   1. The award will be called as Internews Humanitarian Reporting Award
  2. The awards to be given on May 2, 2006 will be announced in media on May 3, 2006 i.e, press freedom day
  3. There will be six awards of Rs. 10,000/- each (Ten thousand rupees only)
The awards committee comprises an already functional Rawalpindi Islamabad Press Club election committee's following members with one addition at serial 8 for radio representation

  1. Awards are meant for Pakistani journalists working for Pakistani media
  2. Award committee to formally approve the award rules by signing the award policy
  3. News reports published/broadcast in Pakistani media will be considered
  4. No committee member will be entitled to the award
  5. No Internews employee is entitled to the award
  6. Each committee member will independently mark every work between range of 1 to 10 for final calculations in each category
  7. Only news reporters, photographers and TV cameramen will be considered for the award and not the editor level staff
  8. News reports published/broadcast within first 100 days of the October 8, 2005 earthquake will be considered, i.e, till January 15, 2006
  9. Newspaper or news agencies' published reports with credit line or editor's endorsement of credit will be considered
  10. News reports which have already received recognition/awards will not be considered
  11. Award committee may on its own consider some work for the award which is not among the nominations

Nomination forms and above information will be circulated to all national newspapers through Internews web site, e-mail groups and fax.
  1. All award contenders are requested to fill up the nomination form, attach or package sample of your work, get it signed by your editor, mention award category on the envelop, and post it at House No. 6-B, Street 31, F-7/1, Islamabad
  2. The deadline for submission of nomination forms is April 29, 2006
  3. One person can be nominated for one story only

Internews will invite awards committee members to meet sometime between April 28 and May 1, 2006 and preview nomination material and select awardees
  1. The awards may be granted in a function a day before press freedom day at Internews Pakistan office # 6-B, St-31, F-7/1, Islamabad
  2. The awards will accompany certificates to be printed by Internews Pakistan , and signed by awards committee chairman and Internews Pakistan 's country director
