  Journalist slain
  A senior journalist of Shahpur Jahania was murdered at a local market here on Wednesday. Munir Ahmed Arain was sitting at his decoration shop when some unidentified men attacked him with hatchets, fatally injuring him. Munir was rushed to the Nawabshah Medical College Hospital but succumbed to the injuries on his way. After the incident, citizens and mediamen staged a demonstration by blocking the main road. The road was reopened for traffic after Taluka Police Officer Nusrat Shaikh held talks with the protesters and assured them of killers’ arrest within 24 hours. The Shahpur Jahania press club hoisted black flag on the building and announced a three-day mourning. Later, the burial of the slain journalist was held at in Shahpur Jahania.

  Human Rights media monitoring cell set up
  Provincial Human Rights Minister Makhdoom Ashfaq Ahmed said on Wednesday that the Human Rights Department had set up a media monitoring cell, in addition to establishing a human rights complaint cell in Lahore. The minister was addressing a meeting. He said that the media-monitoring cell was established to monitor the news relating to human rights violations to ensure immediate action where needed. He said that the purpose of this cell was to allow various stakeholders’ participation.

  Journalists protest re-printing of prophet’s snaps
  Under the patronage of Rawalpindi/Islamabad Union of Journalists, journalists protested in Aabpara against the reprinting of snapshots of Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) in Brussels Journal on February 24.

  Writers, intellectuals to plant saplings
  In a rare move of its kind, noted writers and intellectuals from all over the provinces are going to plant saplings here at Dar-e-Ali Ibne-Abi Talib (School and hostel for orphans) here under the auspices of Pakistan intellectual Forum on Friday.

  Artists not be termed as Bhand or Merasi
  National Assembly Standing Committee for culture has given the observations that artists are important and sensitive segment of society. No detested approach should be shown for them. They should not be termed as Merasi or Band. Atia Annuatullah chaired the meeting of national assembly standing committee.
