Aag TV to go on air from today
The Geo Television Network is launching regular transmission of its third channel ‘Aag TV' from Friday (today). Primarily a music channel targeting youth, Aag TV will also air programmes on lifestyle, fashion, and other areas of interest of the young generation. The Aag TV will air talk shows, general-interest shows and programmes containing news and programmes on music, fashion and lifestyle.

Young professionals launch liberal website on Pakistan
A group of young Pakistani professionals in America have launched a new liberal website called New Pakistan. Syed Husainy, a Pakistani-American businessman, who has helped mount the initiative, said New Pakistan would be political but non-partisan. It will support the restoration of constitutional democracy in Pakistan and “all the oppressed peoples of Pakistan , notwithstanding occasional disagreements with our democratic political leaders and parties”.

USAID launches English lessons radio programme
The USAID has launched a new interactive radio programme in 66 rural schools of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) this year to advance English language lessons for grades one and two primary students, through its Education Sector Reform Programme (ESRA).

USAID launches interactive radio programme
The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a new interactive radio programme to advance English-language lessons for grades-1 and 2 primary students. The 'Time for English: Interactive Radio Instruction for English as a Second Language' series includes 102 half-hour English lessons based on the National Curriculum for English, complemented by teachers' guides and educational posters, said a US Embassy statement.

Implementation of wage award demanded
A joint meeting of the Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) and local chapter of the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec) has demanded immediate implementation of the 7th Wage Award and formation of the 8th Wage Board. The meeting, held at the Karachi Press Club, also urged the government to link all concessions to the newspaper industry with the implementation of the wage award.

And those obviously were my instincts when I heard a promo on Hum FM 106.2. It was the promo of a songs countdown show called 'Sobia Khan's Desi Chart Show'.

British Council's Chevening scholarship
The British Council has announced that September 7 is the last date for receipt of British Chevening scholarship 2007-08 forms. The Chevening scholarships are funded by the foreign and commonwealth offices of the United Kingdom and administered by the British Council.

Hayatullah gets international press freedom Awards
TORONTO, August 31 2006: Canadian journalist for free expression (CJFE), announced the winners of this year's international press freedom awards- Abeer Alaskary of Egypt, hollman Morris of Colombia and Hayatullah khan of Pakistan both Abeer Al- askary and Hollman Morris are expected to attend the gala ceremonies at Toronto's Arcadian court on November 1 to be recognised and hounored for their effort.

Indian cable TV at Rs5 per pay channel
Cable television operators will be allowed to charge no more than Rs5 per pay channel a month when a new access system arrives in India 's top three cities, the regulator said on Thursday. Television viewers in New Delhi , Mumbai and Kolkata will start paying under the new conditional access system (CAS) by Dec 31.

CHINA : Court convicts HK reporter of spying, sentences him to five years
Hong Kong reporter Ching Cheong was convicted of spying on Thursday and sentenced to five years in prison in mainland China , the state-run Xinhua News Agency reported. Ching, a correspondent for Singapore 's Straits Times newspaper, has been detained since April last year. State media have reported that he confessed to selling military secrets to Taiwan and setting up a spy network, but his supporters say he's innocent.

BANGLADESH : Journalist Sunil Banerjee passes away
Dhaka --- Noted journalist Sunil Banerjee died of cardiac arrest at his Mohammadpur residence in the city yesterday at the age of 59. Family sources said Sunil Banerjee has been suffering from various diseases, including cardiac problem for the last few years and was under the treatment of Prof. Motiur Rahman.
