Press freedom in Pakistan continues to languish in its sorry state. Slogans claiming “the press is free” have proved to be untrue, as countless media persons continue to perish under the climate of hostility the establishment has created for the press. MunirAhmed Sangi, a young photographer of local Sindhi-language daily Kawish and cameraman for the Sindhi-language Kawish Television Network (KTN) was shot dead on May 29 while covering a gunbattle between the Unar and Abro tribes in Simahee Unar village on the outskirts of Larkana city. Journalists in Karachi , Larkana, Lahore and some other cities held demonstrations over Sangi's tragic death.
