Durrani claims development in Qalander case |
| |
Federal Minister for Information Muhammad Ali Khan Durrani has claimed that there was some development in Qalander’s case. He assured full support from federal government, and told that he had talked to chief minister NWFP in this regard. He said that newspaper owners are not cooperating in wage board implementation.

Journalists protest against Qalandar kidnapping |
| |
Members of Tribal Union of Journalists (TUJ), along with some local journalists Sunday staged a protest demonstration in front of the Khyber House and flayed the political agent of Khyber Agency for not recovering the kidnapped journalist Sohail Qalandar and his friend Niaz Muhammad.

Tribal journalists want colleague recovered |
| |
The Tribal Union of Journalists (TUJ) and other local journalists protested outside Khyber House on Sunday against the abduction of veteran journalist Sohail Qalandar and his friend Niaz Muhammad. The protestors held banners and placards demanding his recovery and a number of them said the political agent was involved in Qalandar’s abduction.

Progressive Panel clinches victory in RIUJ polls |
| |
The Progressive Panel has won clinched victory in Rawalpindi Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) election against the Democratic Panel. According to Election Commission Chairman Salim Khalji, Afzal Butt of Progressive Panel got 332 votes while his opponent from Democratic Panel CR Shamsi secured 178 votes. Independent candidate Akram Bukhari got 22 votes in the contest. The Progressive Panel held 16 seats out of 17 in the election while one member of Democratic Panel for the slot of vice president got victory. Sheharyar Khan with 335 votes, Nasar Mehmood Chisti with 234 votes from Progressive Panel while Ali Sher with 256 votes from Democratic Panel emerged as successful candidate for the position of vice president. Ashfaq Sajad with 314 votes was considered successful candidate for the position of General Secretary.

KHUJ elections results announced |
| |
The Khyber Union of Journalists (KhUJ) elections for the post of general secretary, executive council and delegates for Biennial Delegate Meeting (BDM) concluded late Saturday night in which Nasir Hussain of daily Express was elected as general secretary for 2007. Nasir Hussain bagged 85 votes out of 155 votes and defeated Sultan Siddique of daily Jang who received 68 votes. It merits a mention election on president, senior vice president, vice president, finance secretary and joint secretary seats did not held as candidates on these posts have been elected unopposed.

Tribute paid to journalist |
| |
Journalists and local leaders paid rich tributes to senior journalist Shamim Shamsi for his contributions to the profession at a condolence reference organised by the Sukkur Press Club on Sunday. A large number of journalists from Khairpur, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kandhkot, Shahdad Kot and Sukkur attended the reference, which was followed by ‘dua’. Sukkur Press Club general secretary Lala Asad announced in his speech that the club’s main hall would be named ‘Shamim Shamsi Seminar Hall’, and said it was an humble tribute to him for his contributions to the profession.
