Rally demands arrest of journalist killers |
| |
Mediamen, accompanied by a large number of people belonging to various walks of life, took out a protest rally on Sunday against the killing of their colleagues in interior Sindh and harassment of local journalists through the registration of fake cases against them at the instigation of influential elements. The journalists gathered at the Hyderabad press club where they held a meeting on the increasing crime against mediamen in interior Sindh. Later, they took out a protest rally and marched through the city streets and roads. They raised slogans against the authorities concerned for their failure to protect the lives of journalists. They condemned the killing of their colleagues Munir Sangi and Munir Arain, and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits. District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput, MPA Zahid Bhurguri, Azhar Jatoi, Mahboob Abro, Moenuddin Sheikh and others spoke on the occasion.

President Musharraf’s “In the Line of Fire” has, according to many within the book industry taken the country by storm, become a best seller on the English language book market. However due to the absence of any objective and neutral mechanism to monitor book sales this has proven difficult to verify, with many pointing out that most book shops and dealers do not even know what the previous bestseller was.

Huma Ali new PFUJ president |
| |
Syed Huma Ali was elected the new president of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) for two years (2007-2009) on Sunday. He defeated his rival and sitting president Pervaiz Shaukat by 14 votes (Huma got 91 votes while Pervaiz got 77). Fauzia Shahid was elected the senior vice president and Shamsul Islam Naz vice president. Mazhar Abbas was elected the secretary. Saleem Shahid and Hamid Nawaz were elected unopposed the assistant secretaries general, while M Ibrahim Khan was elected treasurer.

Huma Ali elected PFJU president |
| |
Huma Ali was elected as President of Pakistan Federal union of Journalists (PFJU) in the election held at Lahore press club. Huma secured 91 votes while his opponent Pervaiz Shukat baged 77 votes. MAzhar Abbas was reelected as secretary general. Fouzia Shahid bagged 110 votes for Senior Vice President. Ibrahim Khan was elected as Treasurer.

A press club as been set up at Ghazi to boost up journalists activities in town. A meeting of Terbela Union of journalists chaired by Javed Iqbal elected Khawas Baig as the first chairperson and Mohammad Shebaz as president newly set up press club.

Renowned actress Meera will soon appear in a commercial of Safari Park. The sources in Safari Park told the Nation, that she visited the park for commercial shooting. The park organisers said that she was chosen because she looks physically ideal for the thrilling sports and fun events which were being installed in the park.
