Brother of missing journalist threatens hunger strike
The brother of Munir Mengal, the missing managing director of the Baloch Voice Television, announced on Friday that he would begin a hunger strike from August 10 in front of the Karachi Press Club to protest what he described as Munir's illegal abduction by the country's intelligence agencies.

PFUJ demands arrest of Hayatullah's killers
The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) on Friday demanded the government immediately arrest the killers of journalists, including Hayatullah Khan, who were murdered while performing their duty.

PFUJ-Apnec meeting from August 4
The three-day joint meeting of Federal Executive Council (FEC) of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), and National Executive Committee (NEC) of All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec) will be held in Peshawar from August 4 to 6, to discuss government-press relationship and draw future course of action against non-implementation of 7th Wage Award.

Journalist's wife hurt, robbed
Wife of a senior journalist was injured while trying to resist a robbery attempt at the gate of the Karachi Press Club on Friday. Mr Iqbal Jaffari and his wife Rehana Iqbal Jaffari were alighting from a cab at KPC gate on Friday noon when two persons on a motorcycle intercepted them, and tried to snatch the purse of Mrs Jaffari. As she tried to resist, one of the robbers hit her in the head with his pistol butt and taking away the purse.

Negative journalists
Sir: In his letter ‘Confessions of a negative journalist' (Daily Times, August 1) Mr MB Naqvi has mentioned myself having “negotiated” some terms for his assignment with Radio Pakistan during the ZA Bhutto administration. I hate to contradict him but what he says does not accord with my recollections of the event.
