Breathing space | Grace under pressure by Farrukh Khan Pitafi |
| |
I have borrowed this title from one of a dear friend and former colleague Adnan Rehmat’s annual reports on media in Pakistan. Media grace in this country certainly is under pressure. If there is any solace to be found in the dire happenings of recent weeks, it can derived from the fact that at the very least the official sycophants have stopped parroting the patronizing lines about the so-called unprecedented freedom granted to the media by the current government.

Alhamra University – a dream yet to come true |
| |
The Punjab Governor’s dream of setting up Alhamra University of Performing and Visual Arts seems to be heading towards reality after the authorities concerned seek funds to begin work on the project, but still the project has a long way to go to become a full fledged university. Some notables of the performing and visual arts think that chances are still bleak to turn this dream into a reality. However Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Asghar Hussain Giallni told this scribe on Thursday that the university would award FA, BA and MA degrees. About university building, he said funds had been sought from the government. About the location of the university, he said it would either be set up at Alhamra Cultural Complex or at a 22-kanal plot adjacent to Shahdara.
