ATTACK ON MEDIA Physical Threat Journalists manhandled |

Two DawnNews TV cameramen were manhandled by security staff of the United Nations House as they filmed here on Saturday. The DawnNews team was on a shoot when the security staff of the UN House in Sector F-7/2 stopped them.
According to a statement issued by DawnNews: “The staff of the security agency posted at the UN office confiscated the camera of DawnNews staffer Mansoor Ahmed, dragged him into the UN premises and detained him illegally for some time even though he identified himself. Another DawnNews cameraman, Asif Mirza, was also assaulted.” |

MEDIA MISCELLANEOUS Billboards along GT Road not removed |

The city district government has failed to remove hoardings along the GT Road despite setting a deadline in this regard and instead it has issued a list of new rates for advertisers.
The new rate list was issued at a meeting here on Sunday with City District Nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha in the chair. District Naib Nazim Jamal Khan Manj, District Coordination Officer Ather Sayal, Executive District Officer for Municipal Services Wahid Butt and Excise and Taxation Director Sikander Hayat also attended the meeting.

IT / TELECOM PSEB training for IT professionals |
| |
Some 200 nominees from 50 member companies are being provided training under Pakistan Software Export Board's (PSEB) four-month programme to improve their English language skills. This training is being conducted by Berlitz in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. Talking here Sunday, an official at PSEB said besides different skill developments programmes, the board also sponsored Rational Rose Training for 16 IT professionals from 10 member companies last month. Moreover, he said PSEB has received 24 applications for its Apprenticeship Programme which are undergoing revision.

CINEMA 3 modern cinemas |
| |
Three modern cinema houses would be constructed in Karachi to provide quality entrainment to its citizens, City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said Sunday while talking to the media at the Arts Council of Pakistan. He said that they would also try to revive the cinema houses that were closed or razed and that cultural activities in the city would be encouraged to boost the cinema-going culture. Earlier, he addressed a reception hosted by the governing body of the Arts Council of Pakistan. He stressed developing more libraries, reading rooms and cultural centers. He also gave a two-million-rupee grant to the Arts Council Karachi for its office bearers.
