  Committees formed to amend press laws
  Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has formed two separate committees to suggest amendments in current press laws. Prime Minister announced these committees in a meeting with APNS delegation on Monday. These committees would also prepare suggestion to resolve the problem of newspaper industry. CEO Jang Group of Newspapers Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman nominated as chairman of the committee constituted to suggest amendment in press laws while secretary finance would lead the committee formulated to suggest step s for development of newspaper industry. Prime Minister also instructed secretary information to prepare a program to conduct regular traning of media persons.   Reference for slain journalist Hayatullah held Early completion, release of inquiry report underlined
  Speakers at a function voiced concern over the government's failure in finalizing the report on the kidnapping and killing of tribal journalist Hayatullah Khan Dawar despite the passage of one year to the brutal incident, calling upon the government make all the reports public and arrest the culprits. To commemorate late Hayatullah Khan, Khyber Union of Journalists, Reporters Sans Frontiers and Tribal Union of Journalists jointly organized a function in which scores of local and FATA journalists participated besides, provincial president of PPPP Rahim Dad Khan, central president of ANP Afrasiyab Khattak, former NWFP senior minister Sirajul Haq also attended the function.

  Late Hayatullah paid tributes Tribal journalists urge government to arrest culprits

  Hayatullah remembered
  Speakers at a seminar on Tuesday demanded of the government to release an inquiry report on the kidnapping and killing of Hayatullah Khan Dawar, a tribal journalist whose body was found in Mirali, North Waziristan, earlier this year. The seminar, titled “Remembering Hayatullah Shaheed”, was jointly organised at the Peshawar Press Club by the Khyber Union of Journalists, Reporters without Borders (RSF) and Tribal Union of Journalists.

  Newspaper hawkers call on minister
  A delegation comprising newspaper hawkers called on the NWFP Minister for Information, Asif Iqbal Daudzai, here on Tuesday and briefed him about their apprehensions regarding construction of the newspapers hawkers market. The minister discussed the issues involved in detail and assured that these would be resolved according to the instructions of the NWFP chief minister.

  Secret tapes received at Geo News premises
  The management of Geo News has received tapes from unknown persons holding highly sensitive content. The tape which includes videos of persons involved in corruption and other objectionable activities. The sender has not disclosed the contact details and neither the venue of recording. The tapes hold videos of various figures involved in theft, dacoit, bribery and other corrupt activities.

  Knowledge and Skills are inevitable
  Jang Lahore Cultural reporter reports a day long seminar held in Lahore College for Women University, Sub titling 'Geo TV Productions have started short courses'. One day seminar was organized by Citizen Media Commission in collaboration with Lahore College for Women University. Seminar topic was ‘Is higher media growth meant for better performance?” President Citizen Media Commission Javed Qureshi said media growth in Pakistan is slow due to low literacy rate. Seminar was addressed by different high profile media personalities of the town. Geo General Manager Production Tariq Fareed said now media has entered in era of multiple channels. Profit margin is limited as market is not expanding for media. He informed that Geo has started Geo Production courses. Punjab University Mass Communication Chief Prof Mugees ud Din Shiekh said knowledge and skills enhancement necessary for media. Miss Anjum Zia of Mass Communication department of Lahore College for Women University said that media should take notice of commercialization of media which is effecting quality of programs.
