Govt lifts NA press restrictions |
| |
Journalists on Wednesday staged a walkout from the National Assembly’s press gallery to protest against the government’s decision to restrict their movement in the Parliament House building and barring their entry to the cafeteria and ministers’ chambers. The journalists ended the boycott after the government lifted the ban on their entry to the cafeteria and assured that the issue of allowing TV cameras would also be resolved soon. The assurance came from Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Tariq Azeem in a meeting with representatives of journalists.

The journalists staged walk out from press gallery and boycotted morning session. Interestingly PID issued cards to around two dozen ‘non-journalists’ for the press gallery. As soon as the journalists started walking out of the press gallery, senior PID officials started herding their staff members and ‘unknown citizens’ to gallery.

The majority of parliamentary reporters were sitting in the press lounge when I reached there Wednesday morning. They had walked out of the press gallery to register protest over a new set of restrictions on the movement of journalists in the Parliament House that the National Assembly Secretariat wanted to enforce in the name of ‘security.’

Pakistanis accused of hacking official Indian websites |
| |
India has taken the blame game against Pakistan beyond suicide bombings and cross-border infiltration. Now New Delhi has accused Pakistani computer geeks of hacking into their key official websites and systems. This time, the allegation doesn’t sound rhetorical but with a verdict of New Delhi court alleging a Karachi-based hacker, or his group, for defacing a number of Indian websites. Backing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) findings, an Indian court has pointed finger to one ‘Attic’ for bringing down the website of the Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC). Interestingly, India has alleged a Pakistani national for the first-ever criminal case of hacking lodged under the Information Technology Act, 2000. Sources in the ministries of foreign affairs and interior here confirmed receiving an official Indian request for probe and access to fresh findings based on documents and verdict of the Delhi court.

Letter to Editor the Post on deceased tribal journalist Hayatullah’s murder |
| |
Eschmall Sardar from Peshawar writes, “Credit goes to daily Khabrain of February 1 for unearthing the truth about Hayatullah’s murder and the accusations against our intelligence agencies. Khabrain’s report says that Hayatullah, a journalist from North Waziristan Agency was murdered by an Uzbek, namely Mufti, whom Hayatullah had refused to marry his sister to despite threats to his life. This disclosure has surfaced after the younger brother of Hayatullah, a 12-year old boy, was also killed by the same Uzbek. The Mufti had been intimidating Hayatullah’s family for quite a few months before the tribal journalist was brutally murdered. Six weeks after Hayatullah’s death, his family succumbed to the revengeful Mufti’s pressure, who took their daughter to an unknown place after administering nikah and kept her under confinement. Consequently, she succeeded in fleeing from the confinement and refused to go back despite Mufti’s various ‘reconciliatory’ attempts. Disgruntled, he also killed the younger brother of Hayatullah as revenge.”
