Ismail was brutally murdered and his killers dumped his body in a jungle in Sector F-6/1 on the night of October 31. A large number of journalists, politicians, local government officials and villagers attended the function held at his ancestral village Durdad in Attock.   LETTERS TO EDITOR
  Tying up ‘loose ends'
Sir: One must ask why the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned the talk show ‘Loose Ends’ on Business Plus. Considering the volume of absolute rubbish that one can find on television these days, why is it that PEMRA would opt to ban one of the few programmes that actually make a point. Loose Ends is a novel programme where a panel of people sit together to discuss all manner of social issues in a very candid manner.

  Loose ends — II
Sir: The definition of PEMRA needs to be revised. Perhaps something along the lines of ‘Please Excuse My presence Rather than Admit it being useless’. The organisation’s responsibilities are supposed to involve censoring illicit and harmful content.

  Loose ends — III
Sir: Before making some comments regarding PEMRA mandate, one must say a few words about the merits of the ‘Loose Ends’ programme aired on Business Plus every Sunday at 10:15 PM which my family and I regularly watch. It is a good programme and takes up social issues that are relevant to us and beg a debate.

  Ban on Sindh TV
On Nov 8, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has banned a popular Sindhi Private TV Channel (Sindh TV) under the instructions of the government. The channel was telecasting through satellite and cable since October 2004 from Bangkok. The ban took place after they showed film of the murder of a policeman during the attack on Dadu District jail. The report linked the incident with an ex-MNA of the ruling party. Meanwhile, the correspondent who had filed this report, has moved to Karachi with his family, after receiving threats on his life.
