Islamabad police to have FM radio

The first meeting of the newly appointed members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) was held here at the Pemra headquarters on Tuesday. The new members have recently been appointed for a term of four years. Pemra, during this meeting, took significant decisions pertaining to the electronic media regime in Pakistan.

Swatis torch TVs under TNSM spell

Jamal Farooq’s wife is pressing him to throw out their 21-inch television, which she believes is a “symbol of evil” in her home.“My wife’s belief is being strengthened by Maulana Fazlullah, a leader of the banned Tehrik Nifaz Shariah Muhammadi (TNSM), who delivers two speeches everyday on the illegal FM radio station in Mingora,” Jamal Farooq, a government official, confided to Daily Times on Tuesday.

Afghan Sikh journalist detained in Pakistan

An Afghan Sikh radio broadcaster was allegedly arrested by Pakistani soldiers as he arrived in Pakistan as part of a delegation to attend a conference on Tuesday. Dayal Singh Ganjana, a broadcaster with the Pushto service of Afghanistan’s national radio and television, was arrested at the Spin Boldak border with Afghanistan.

Sit-in planned for Wage Award

The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists and the All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation announced on Tuesday that they would stage a sit-in in front of the Prime Minister’s House on September 15 in protest against the non-implementation of the 7th Wage Board Award. http://www.dawn.com/2006/08/09/nat18.htm

Fm Listening: Why private FM channels flourish?

Few weeks ago I heard one of the RJs discussing about the working of PTV. He was asking the listeners to share their opinion about the satisfaction level with the government owned channel. No doubt the topic was debatable. But instead of thinking about it, my attention meandered to the state owned FM channel, FM 101.
