Meri Awaz Suno at its best
'Meri Awaz Suno,' is a project of Internews, a name of a production house and of radio programmes, produced by a team of Pakistani women journalists. 'Meri Awaz Suno' (MAS) is only a 15-minute long programme but includes field-based features, in-depth interviews and panel discussions. The program also contains personal stories, interviews of policy makers and that of people in power. In the past, the team of MAS produced programs based on stories of burned-victims, water-shortage, drug addiction, infant mortality, bonded labor in brick-kilns, female prisoners and HIV/AIDS issues. Besides this the team of MAS is working on the production of these episodes in local languages such as Sindhi, Pushto and Punjabi.

Who needs a TV when monitors are cheaper?
If you are interested in buying a new television but think it too expensive, why not buy a used computer monitor instead, as it will be 35 percent cheaper? A new 21-inch TV is available in the market for Rs 9,500-11,000, but a used 21-inch monitor costs just Rs 5,000-5,500. Add a TV tuner, worth Rs 1,000-1,400, and the cost pushes up to Rs 6,000-6,900, still far cheaper than a television.

  LETTERS TO EDITOR
  Media and elections
If our electronic and print media want to cover the national elections next year in a truly professional manner - and they must if they are worth their salt - they should start preparations right now. It will take them quite some time to develop their own models for covering elections. In the meantime, they should study how others are doing it.

  Cut!
Sir: While surfing TV channels recently, I came across host Nadia Khan's show who expressed her delight at being able to interview Pakistan's most famous female director -a director so famous that I couldn't for the life of me, even recall her name or her face! The next hour of the show was devoted to praising our awful film industry, almost making it sound as if it was better than both Hollywood and Bollywood put together.
