  Taliban demand release of three spokesmen
  The Taliban are demanding the release of three of their spokesmen in custody of the Afghan government in return for the Italian journalist whom they seized in south-western Helmand province four days ago. Taliban sources said they are not making any demands publicly. But it is understood that the demand for the release of the three Taliban spokesmen has been privately conveyed to the friends and colleagues of Italian journalist, Daniele Mastrogiacomo, who was apprehended by Taliban fighters in Nad Ali district in Helmand. Two Afghans, freelance journalist and interpreter Ajmal and driver Syed Agha, accompanying him were also apprehended.

  Cinemas to go on countrywide strike after March 15
  Cinema owners have demanded the government to allow display of Indian movies for a limited time to let industry bounce back, amendments to Cinematography Act and to forthwith shut down airing of illegal channels being operated by cable operators and to ensure broadcasting of PEMRA’s approved channels on cable TV otherwise they would go on strike after March 15.

  Court stays demolition of cinema
  A local court on Friday stayed the demolition of Falakser cinema in the Peshawar Cantonment which was recently declared a protected antiquity by the federal archaeology department. The court of civil judge, Ahsanul Haq, issued an interim order restraining cinema owner Mian Qadeeruddin from further demolition of the building till March 19.

  Journalists staged token protest from Sindh assembly proceedings
  Journalists’ community staged token protest from Sindh assembly proceedings. They held an emergency meeting in committee room. Senior journalist Habib Khan Gauri presided the meeting. Journalists passed a resolution to protest a murder of fellow journalist from Nasheroferoz.

  Jang group ordered to publish and telecast apology
  A Lahore High Court full bench on Friday directed Geo TV chairman Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman to repeatedly telecast an apologise on the TV besides publishing it on front pages of the dailies Jang and The News till the next hearing on March 12. The bench consisting of Justice Sayed Zahid Hussain, Justice Asif Saeed Khan Khosa, Justice MA Shahid Siddiqui, Justice Syed Shabbar Raza Rizvi and Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed issued the directive during the contempt of court proceedings against the channel for telecasting a programme, which according to the court, was an attempt to lower the dignity of courts. Mr Rehman told the court that the information regarding courts shown in the programme was incorrect. The court observed that the information should have been verified before being telecast. The bench told him to be careful in the future.

  TV channel tenders apology
  The Geo TV network on Friday tendered an unconditional apology before a full bench of the Lahore High Court in a contempt of court case. The proceedings had been initiated against the channel for telecasting a programme in which a high court official was shown taking bribe. The court termed the programme an attempt to ‘lower the dignity of the courts’.

  Local TV channel tenders apology to LHC
  The administration of a local TV channel Friday tendered an unconditional apology before a full bench of the Lahore High Court initiating contempt-of-court proceedings against the channel for telecasting a programme which the court considered an attempt to lower its dignity. The chairman of the TV channel told the court that information pertaining to courts, shown in the programme, was incorrect. He said though the facts could be verified before airing the programme, regrettably no such verification was done.

  Senior journalist and Chief Editor of Pushtoo daily Pir Syed Sufaid Shah Hamdard called on NWFP minister for local government Sardar Idrees at his office and dicussed various matters pertaining to welfare of the journalists community including establishment of Durrani media colony as announced by Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani.
