Lal Masjid’s radio station shut |
| |
While Lal Masjid clerics have sought help of madrassas countrywide to wage a war against all vices in the society, PML President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Tuesday warned them to show flexibility in 24 hours or get ready for an action. On the other hand, while the Lal Masjid clerics have sought help of madrassas countrywide to wage a war against all "immoral and unethical" practices in the society, the religious leaders in Haroonabad and Mardan Tuesday issued ultimatums to cable operators and DVD and CD merchants "to close down their businesses, or face action". According to yet another report, Deputy Information Minister Tariq Azeem said Tuesday the government had blocked the website and radio station of Lal Masjid. "We have blocked the website of Lal Masjid and also blocked the radio station," Tariq Azeem told AFP. Azeem said the government blocked the website (www.lalmasjid.org) and the illegal FM radio station under laws brought in five years ago by President Pervez Musharraf. "We will block anything that promotes religious hatred, calls for suicide attacks -- this cannot be tolerated. The law says that no such activity can be allowed. |

Official website lacks data about govt depts |
| |
The official website of the NWFP government — developed and updated by its Information Technology Department — is not up-to-date and lacks important information about Zakat, Ushr, Social Welfare and Women’s Development Departments. The website, which is supposedly updated daily, has no information regarding the government’s activities relating to social welfare and women’s development. The Zakat, Ushr, Social Welfare and Women’s Development Department (http://www. nwfp.gov.pk/Zakat/Department) only introduces the Zakat department and speaks only of its aims and functions. It has no information about the activities of the Social Welfare and Women Development departments.

| |
Shah Abdul Latif public library in Ratodero appears to be running more like a private library. The newspapers in the library are being given to certain students, even some outsiders. Moreover, the staff at the library doesn’t even check the readers who often remove important news items and job advertisements from the newspapers.
