Training for media persons
PRESIDENT Pervez Musharraf's suggestion for the establishment of a media university for the training of media personnel merits a positive, though conditional, response. Any objective observer of the media scene in Pakistan would testify to the acute dearth of high quality training facilities for mass communications professionals.

A 35-member delegation from India comprising of top businessmen, captains of industry and trade corporations, leading academics, eminent journalists, showbiz personalities and people from different walks of life would visit Karachi under Karachi-Mumbai Exchange program initiated by South Asia Free Media Association (SAFMA) from 10 to 14 June.

GEO TV debate on Hudood laws
Zara Sochieye (THINK) is an initiative by GEO Television Network that attempts to debate issues that promote and/or represent imbalance and injustice in the Pakistani society and have divided it for years. On an issue like the Hudood Ordinances, GEO wants to empower its audience with information on all aspects of the law so that they can independently decide what position they want to take. “We think this is a difficult task, and therefore, we are invoking people to think with our slogan, ‘Zara Sochieye',” says a press release.

FM LISTENING: Summer mornings on the radio
Since the majority of youth are at home because of summer vacation, I believe that FM should exceed morning hours a little over 9 am especially because one bound to wake up late and I am pretty sure that not everyone will be pleased at being greeted with the heavy metal music of Ozzy Osbourne.

Pak artistes to perform in N America
Pakistani artistes, including Abrar-ul-Haq, Rahim Shah, stage comedian Amanullah will perform in concerts which will be organised in North American countries. The concerts will start from the next month. Pop singer Abrar-ul-Haq will also raise funds for his hospital. Liaqaut Ali Bajwa and Jamal Bhuttar are the promoters of the concerts.

TV channels should collaborate
Sir: In the post budget discussions on June 5, private channels roped in whomever they could to discuss the budget. Since the supply was less than demand, even incompetent people managed to appear on television and torture audiences.
