Media enjoying full freedom: Durrani

Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani Wednesday claimed that local media was enjoying complete freedom for the first time in the history of Pakistan, adding that it was clearly evident from the way President Musharraf was being criticised by the media. Talking to the newspaper editors, senior journalists during an Iftar dinner, hosted by the president in Islamabad, the minister said the measures taken by President Musharraf would go a long way in helping the growth of democratic institutions in Pakistan. He said these steps were taken to evolve a perfect democratic system. He said Musharraf never lied and faced all kinds of situations bravely. He said none of the civil or military rulers in the history of Pakistan had ever achieved their objectives "but I believe that President Musharraf would definitely fulfil the promises that he has made with the nation."
