The Post Editorial “Rule of lawlessness”
Consider the might of the gangsters and hoodlums that they continued to spray bullets into the office of AAJ TV for hours and roughed up a cameraman of GEO and the government and its so-called law enforcing arms could not stop them. Even the premises of Jinnah Hospital, where the dead and injured were taken, were attacked.

Now our Bachelors in Mass Communication is turned to Bachelors in Computer Arts. University is teaching Banking, English Literature and computer Arts as major subjects by force. We are requesting the university administration to give us two years complementary programme but administration is showing no concern to our future.   And they say the media is free by Omar R. Quraishi
Quite expectedly, suspicion veered towards -- as it would -- the electronic media regulator but it immediately came out with a public statement that it had nothing to do with the blockade. Still, there was lingering doubt because governments in Pakistan sometimes tend not to own up to such acts of censorship, mistakenly thinking that this strategy of obscuring information and indulging in double-speak would actually fool the public. By this time it became apparent, mainly telling from the various reports on the local channels that were still on air, that this censoring was mostly confined to Sindh. The prime minister also said, as he has many a time in the past that the media was free to report whatever it chose to. Well, from what happened on Saturday afternoon that doesn't seem to be the case at all. And the worst part is that who-ever is behind it will get away scot-free-again.

  Advertising
Billboard revolution
Saleha Abbasi, “Suddenly there seems to be quite a number of billboards of big Bollywood celebrities all over the city. After looking at these one cannot help but wonder have all the Pakistani models suddenly become unavailable? If not then why are we using big names from India and other countries to endorse our products? We should use our own stars for this. We have our share of big celebrities too. Be it our cricketers, rock stars or TV actors. There is nothing wrong in using foreign famous people, only if this is also reciprocated in those countries. This situation portrays a very disloyal and unpatriotic perception prevailing in our nation.”

Letter to Editor “Ban on play”
Ali Mujtaba, “I’m no extremist and no follower of the Lal Masjid people but I support the ban of the play “Burqavaganza” on the premise that it had the potential of hurting sentiments of the conservative sections of the Pakistani society. It is imperative that the media act in a responsible manner by not ridiculing certain sections of the society.”
