Scope of disaster reporting discussed

Disaster and war reporting is an emerging field in journalism, and is given prime importance these days by international as well as local media and human rights organisations. A seminar pertaining to Disaster and Conflict Reporting was held by the International Committee for Red Cross on Thursday.

PML did not attack press club: minister

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani has said the government holds the press in high esteem and will never take any step undermining freedom of the press. Mr Durrani visited the Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday along with Federal Minister for Political Affairs Amir Muqam.

Sir: The importance and validity of the media is undeniable. Unfortunately, the press isn't given its rightful due despite the fact that its impact is more significant than the fleeting fads depicted on television. Although the press, like other organisations, has its merits and flaws, the Pakistani public has seldom risen to question its validity as a functioning body.
