Six journalists injured in press club attack
Six journalists were injured in an attack on the Thari Mirwah Press Club on Wednesday evening. The injured, journalists included Abdul Hafeez Shar, Mukhtiar Qasmani, Mehmood and Illahi Bux. The journalists were kicked, punched and beaten up with batons over two dozen armed men. The cause of the attacked could not be ascertained.

Journalist's- home burnt for report on corrupt practice
The Kandhra police arrested the family members of a newsman who unearthed a fraud committed by Director (legal) Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) Karachi and his brother PDSP anti-corruption Sukkur who had acquired state land by declaring them as landless haris.

Pakistani media does not portray true picture of Afghanistan '
Afghan journalists belonging to different media outlets showed their reservations about the Pakistani media perception of Afghanistan saying the ‘return of Taliban' has been blown out of proportion. A delegation of Afghan journalists visited offices of The News and Geo Television on Wednesday in a bid to acquire a better understanding of Pakistani media operations besides sharing their own understanding of Afghan society and media.

Information, Culture allocations up by 8.2pc
AS compared to last year, the Punjab government has increased its budgetary allocations by 8.2 per cent for Information, Culture & Youth Affairs (IC&YA) from 2005-06's Rs.194 million to Rs.210 million for the fiscal year 2006-07 for developing an enlightened image of the province. This year, the aim is to give a broad-based projection to the general masses in the print and electronic media to develop a pro-active and enlightened image of the Punjab government as claimed by the supporting budgetary documents provided with the heavy budget books.

Culture, entertainment budget curtailed
The Punjab government has allocated an amount of Rs 0.5 billion under the head of culture, entertainment and religion in the provincial budget, as compared to the last year's amount of Rs 0.75 billion.

AJK TV channel to reflect Kashmiri culture
Azad Kashmir is highly significant for Pakistan in terms of broadcasting, particularly for projection of just cause of the Kashmiri brethren. This was stated by the PTV Managing Director Ashraf Azeem who led the team of senior PTV officials to Muzaffarabad to finalise the new sight for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) TV station Wednesday.

FM Listening: An international channel joins the race!
Few days ago, I was occupying my self with some songs on 106.2 Hum FM. In between a song break, I was surprised to hear a promo of a programme called ‘The Legends'. According to the promo, the programme would be starting from 24 June and would be on air every Saturday.

Dacoity in tv actor's house: Artistes threaten to go on strike
The artiste community of NWFP Tuesday threatened to hold protest demonstrations in front of the provincial assembly and parliament house in Islamabad if police did not bust the dacoits, who broke into the house of a famous tv artiste Dr Niaz Ali and looted cash, valuables and prize bond worth Rs2,500,000.

Letter to Editor:
PRIME Minister Shaukat Aziz visited the Sunday bazaar in Islamabad on June 11. PTV news gave plenty of coverage to his visit. It was, however, sickening to see the PM paying a few rupees for goods purchased by some women while uttering: “Yeh meri taraf say hai” (This is from me).
