Two rural journalists receive threats for reporting on quasi-judicial decision
Two rural journalists in Pakistan's southern province of Sindh received death threats from feudal lords for reporting on the quasi-judicial decision of Jirga, a traditional feudal assembly, to hand over for marriage five girls, all minors, to a rival family in order to settle a murder dispute.

Six journalists injured in attack on press club
About fifty individuals attacked journalists in a rural press club on 14 June 2006, injuring six newsmen. The assailants, many of whom were on a tractor, barged into the press club in Thari Mirwah, a small town located in the Khairpur district of the southern province of Sindh , and started punching, kicking and beating journalists with sticks. They ransacked the press club damaging furniture and equipment. The intruders chanted slogans against journalists.

Police make arrests after armed men beat journalists at Thari Mirwah Press club
Six journalists were injured in an attack on the Thari Mirwah Press Club on Wednesday evening. The injured, journalists included Abdul Hafeez Shar, Mukhtiar Qasmani, Mehmood and Illahi Bux. The journalists were kicked, punched and beaten up with batons over two dozen armed men. The cause of the attacked could not be ascertained

‘ Govts, corporate sector still spearhead media in the world'
Corporate and government interests have acquired almost total control of media, making it difficult for anyone from China to Peru seeking truth escape embedding, India 's leading documentary filmmaker Anand Patwardhan said. Electronic media still not free to cover truth: seminar
Speakers at a workshop on South Asian Electronic Media on Thursday said that television and radio channels in the private sector had phenomenally expanded and flourished in the region during the last one decade, but still they have been facing difficult times in unbiased and truthful reporting due to the government and other non-state societal pressures.

Electronic media can help promote peace: Ibad
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan said on Thursday that electronic media can play a significant role in sustaining ongoing peace process between Pakistan and India besides strengthening democracy. Speaking at a three-day workshop on South-Asian Electronic Media Association, organized by the South-Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) at a hotel, he said a greater responsibility lies on media to strengthen relations and build peace at this point of time when things are moving in the right direction as desired by the leadership of both the countries.

Protest against threat to journalist
Protest rally was taken out by journalists in Larkana against the life threat to a journalist in Thul by some men of a tribe. A large number or journalists also observed token hunger strike in front of the Larkana Press Club after the rally.

FM LISTENING: New Sassi Khan in town
A few days back, I heard some people complaining about a new female DJ on Power 99 FM. They were not satisfied with her show time, her presenting style and the content of the show. They were of the view that the way she hosted the show and the topic she discussed, did not match with our culture and customs. Additionally, some listeners were of the view that she used these tactics to attract male listeners. However, such a bold statement needed to be crosschecked.

For the many avid football fans like myself, PTV's failure to telecast the FIFA World Cup this year in its true spirits was highly disappointing. More efforts seem to have been spent on PTV's advertising campaign than in the actual broadcast.
