Local journalists Saturday set up a camp outside the DIG office to protest against the registration of a false case against their colleague by the district police.

Journalists protest booking of colleagues

Local journalists staged a camp opposite the DIG office Saturday to protest registration of false cases against newsmen in the district by police.  Police registered a case under Section 420 and 492 against a journalist, Ch Akhtar Gujjar, Friday.

‘Govt committed to press freedom'

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Muhammad Ali Durrani said on Saturday that the government is committed to the freedom of press and facilitating both the print and electronic media to develop as the fourth pillar of the state for the promotion of democracy.

Blaming it on the media

In the wake of the gloom that had set in with the Fokker crash in Multan on Monday and the disquiet that was prompted by bomb blasts in Mumbai on Tuesday, we remain perturbed by Israel's brutal attack on Lebanon. In addition, we had the suicide assassination of Allama Hasan Turabi in Karachi on Friday. Does this mood synchronise with the state of affairs in the country or should we be reassured that in the midst of the cosmic sense of disorder, we are doing all right under our present government?
