6pc Indian content on Pak TVs allowed
Clear strategy soon, minister tells NA : Ministers' foreign trips cost Rs 51.65m
In stark contrast to its earlier announcements about restrictions on Pakistani satellite channels to telecast Indian programmes, the government on Wednesday informed the lower house of parliament that the local channels were allowed to air six per cent Indian content and four per cent English content during daily transmissions.

PILA&C to launch FM Punjabi channel
The Punjab Institute of Language Art and Culture (PILA&C) intends to start a 24-hour non-stop transmission through its own FM Punjabi Radio Channel and the FM Punjab section was being set up for the purpose.

Flood-victims assail govt, media apathy
The government and media faced severe criticism, at a seminar here Wednesday, for paying no attention to the plight of the flood-victims. "People who own dozens of acres are forced to work as servants to feed their children after flood washed away their lands", revealed a flood-victim.

Meeting flays attack on Nawa-I-Waqt office
Meeting of National press club Mirpurkhas was held on Friday (Aug 11) here. It was presided over by its president Qamaruddin. The meeting strongly condemned the attack on the offices of daily the nation and Nawa-I Waqt and termed the threats of dire consequences by unknown miscreants and attack on freedom of press.

Newspaper hawker dies
A newspaper hawker died outside the District Headquarters Hospital here Wednesday. Fida Hussain distributed newspapers at the hospital as per routine, however, after completing the job, he suddenly fell down from his bicycle and died on the spot.

FM Listening: FM and I-Day celebrations
It was only this August that I finally learnt that the FM channels I have been listening to belong to Pakistan . And the realisation came while listening to the patriotic songs played on them, for most part I get to hear Indian and western music alone on these channels. From August 1 onwards the independence celebrations started on all FM channels.

Freedom of information
HONESTY of approach will be the key. On face value, the Freedom of Information Ordinance promulgated by the Sindh governor on Thursday empowers citizens and facilitates public knowledge of the government's actions and decisions. Proper access to information can help introduce clarity and transparency in government policies and conduct and, in theory at least, inhibit corruption among public officials.
