Private TVs must seek permission to enter parliament

Cameramen from private television channels were barred from entering Parliament House on Thursday in a move perceived by the opposition as an attempt to control coverage of proceedings. Chaudhry Amir Hussain, speaker of the National Assembly, said that private TV channels would have to go through the laid down procedure to get official permission to bring their cameras inside Parliament House.

NA speaker bars coverage by private TVs

National Assembly Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain Thursday restricted personnel of private channels from entering the Parliament House and allowed only the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) to cover the proceedings.

The banned Tehrik Nifaz Shariah Muhammadi and the NWFP government have struck a ‘compromise' to ease tension over the use of an illegal FM radio station, and a campaign against TVs and VCDs in Sawat.

No PTV signals in Rahim Yar Khan

The Pakistan Television which collects revenue worth millions from viewers in the district pays no attention to improve its signals in this part of the Punjab . A majority of the people who turn to PTV for different reasons are being forced to switch over to cable. The district has a population of 3.7million. Earlier, two of the four tehsils were getting weak signals, while the rest very weak or nothing.

Senior journalist Mansoor passes away

Senior journalist Mansoor Ahmad breathed his last of cardiac arrest Thursday. He was 52. He was laid to rest the same day and a large number of journalists and people from all walks of the life attended his funeral.

Senior journalist passes away

Senior Journalist and former Bureau Chief of PPI Mansoor Ahmad died of cardiac attack this morning. He was 55. The deceased was an experienced journalist who worked with the Daily Frontier Post Peshawar, Daily Khyber Mail, Daily Statesman and Daily Mashriq Peshawar.

Reading habit

This is with reference to Sohail Nasir's letter titled ' Reading habit' published on August 9. I agree with him that the habit of reading has been reduced in our society, especially in our students they are not inclined towards reading and spend most of their time sitting in front of computers. Consequently, they have lost fluency in talking due to lack of reading.

Television

Sir: Due to the recent decision taken by the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on April 14, disallowing individual/personal non-cable subscription to decoders, Defence Services Officers serving in remote locations are now being declined the renewal of entertainment channel subscriptions, such as STAR TV.
