FM radio licence for Gilgit

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) granted on Tuesday its first licence to a company, Digital Effects, for establishing FM radio stations in Gilgit. “Pemra will like to issue more licences in the region but only one application for FM radio in Gilgit was received and the licence was given,” the executive member of Pemra Shahid Hamayun said.

Hayatullah's children to get free education

Complying with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz's orders, the Federal Education Ministry has earmarked Rs 150,000 per year for the educational expenses of the children of journalist Hayatullah Khan, who was killed by unknown assailants in Mir Ali, North Wazirastan Agency, in June.

Slain newsman's children to get scholarship

The federal government will provide Rs 150,000 every year to the children of deceased journalist Hayatullah for educational expenses until they reach college-level, said a statement of the federal Ministry of Education issued here on Tuesday.

Media training workshop: Attitudinal changes imperative for society's reformation

Drastic attitudinal changes are required for the modification of the society according to the everlasting teachings of the Holy Quran and demands of modern life so that the incidents of gender-based violence are reduced to nil in the Pakistan, where gender-based discrimination is on the rise as a result of which country is facing criticism from human rights groups and activists.

Ghulam Ali Mirza passes away

Ghulam Ali A. Mirza, company secretary, printer and publisher of the Dawn Group of Newspapers, expired on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. His funeral procession will be taken from his residence, A- 129, Qadimi Mohalla, Old Golimar, Manghopir Road , at 10am to Eidgah near his house for Namaz-i-Janaza.

The first editorial titled "Crucial meeting" starts this way: "The 95th corps commander meeting held in Rawalpindi is significant for its contents as well as context.
