ARY cameraman among dead | Khabrain crime reporter seriously injured
At least 138 people, including 25 policemen and a local TV cameraman, were killed and over 200 injured Thursday in suspected suicide bombings targeting a vehicle carrying former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on her return from eight years in exile, police and hospital sources said. A cameraman of a local news channel ARY One World Muhammed Arif Khan also died in the blasts. Four other media personnel, including Daily Khabrain's crime reporter Siddique Chaudhry were injured. Chaudhry was reported to be stable after suffering serious injuries in the explosions. The cameramen of private television channels also bore the brunt of the explosion. Arif Khan, a senior camera man of ARY Television, was killed on the spot while Abid Ali of Dawn News, Express reporter Wasiq Naeem, Haroon Rashid of Deputy Controller of ENG service were critically injured

APP reporter operated upon following injury caused due to blast |
| |
Rashid Ali Panhwar, a reporter associated with Electronic News Gathering (ENG) service of Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) injured while covering Benazir Bhutto’s procession underwent a surgery Friday morning. Doctors associated with JPMC told APP that a six inch splinter which crushed into the abdomen of the journalist was removed and he has been placed under observation. The surgery has been successful and we expect absolute recovery of Rashid Panwhar, Dr Khem Chand said. The APP newsman was very close to the vehicle carrying Benazir Bhutto during Thursday’s procession and got injured while performing his official responsibilities. He also got certain minor injuries which were immediately taken care of. |

Media Miscellaneous Govt rejects RSF report on Pakistani press freedom |
| |
An official spokesman here expressed disagreement to an RSF (Reporters Sans Frontiers) report placing Pakistan on 152 position in press freedom index and said it ignored a number of factors which actually helped determine the level of press freedom in any country.

France to help media varsity train journalists |
| |
Media University to be operational soon: Durrani
Ambassador of France to Pakistan Regis de Belenet has said two French institutes will collaborate with the Islamabad Media University to enhance professional standards of mediapersons in accordance with international norms, and to promote press freedom. He stated this at a meeting with Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Durrani here on Thursday, says a press release. “AFP Foundation and the Higher School of Journalism are two prestigious French institutions that train journalists in developing countries and give assistance to various organisations in media training,” said the ambassador, adding that their aim was to promote higher standards of journalism around the world.
