‘Media violating law on juvenile offenders’
The print and electronic media have regularly been using pictures and names of juvenile offenders and children in need of protection, contrary to the code of ethics given under different laws and by national and international organizations. Legal experts told Dawn that as the government had yet to declare such practices as penal offence, therefore, the media had openly been mentioning the names and addresses of juvenile offenders and even their pictures were used, putting their lives at risk. Recently, the picture and name of a nine-year-old female victim of child prostitution, recovered from a brothel in Swat district, was splashed in different newspapers.

  No longer a family channel
Touseef Khan in letter to editor, “PTV has been a unique TV channel when it telecasted its dramas and other TV shows to a captive audience. It was the only TV channel then and provided family entertainment to all. These days, a lot of its dramas carry no moral or ethical message. All are basically stories of love affairs among their different characters. Sometimes, the dialogues spoken are so brazen that one cannot enjoy watching a play while sitting with one’s family members. For instance a drama called ‘cousins’ is being telecasted these days that shows two cousins getting involved with one another. It feels as if the ghost of enlightened moderation has clung to the soul of the PTV. What message do we want to deliver to the rest of world? That our only problem is the love affairs between the girls and boys?”
