Honourable Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry has taken suo moto notice of the news item regarding implication of the senior correspondent of daily The News in the triple murder case in the jurisdiction of the Shehzad Town police station in Islamabad the other day.

Murder case against journalist CJP takes suo motu action

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry has taken suo motu notice of the news item regarding implication of crime reporter of an English daily Shakeel Anjum in a murder case published in a section of press Monday. The chief justice has sought comments of the concerned inspector general in the matter. He has also ordered to put up the case in his chamber on October 6, 2006.

APNS condemns police violence:

The All Pakistan Newspapers Society has condemned continuation of acts of violence against media persons by law-enforcement agencies and implicating journalists in false cases. A meeting of the executive committee of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society held here on Tuesday expressed anger over acts of police violence against journalists in Rahimyar Khan and Lahore and registration of an FIR in a triple murder case against a journalist in Rawalpindi, a press release said.

CM says he backs press freedom .

Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi Tuesday said he strongly believed in freedom of press. According to a press release, he was talking to ATV Chairman Ch Abdul Jabbar who had called on him at Chief Minister House. The Chief Minister said he himself had ordered the registration of a case against the police officials, involved in torture on journalists, which showed how sensitive the government was on the issue of freedom of press. He said the elements, trying to create rift between the press and government, would fail.

NGOs plan Media Regional Forum

The Institute of Human Rights Communication Nepal (IHRICON) and South Asia Partnership Pakistan (SAP-PK) will form a Media Regional Forum (MRF) in Pakistan. IHRICON, a representative body of the South Asian Peace Alliance (SAPA), has been given the responsibility to form MRF in all South Asian countries including Pakistan, and the thematic area assigned to SAP-PK is South Asian Regional Identity.

GEO network to launch sports channel on 30th

The GEO network will launch a new sports channel on September 30. The forthcoming channel will be countrys first 24-hour sports channel. This was announced by Yousuf Baig Mirza, MD, GEO Network Channel, at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday. The press briefing was also attended by Jahangir Khan, Javed Miandad, Moin Khan, Danish Kaneria, Olympian Islahuddin and commentary expert, Munir Hussain.
