Journalists on Saturday asked the owners of newspapers and TV channels to ensure compensation for their colleagues killed or injured while covering a rally taken out in Karachi on Thursday to welcome Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto on her homecoming. The demand came during a meeting held at the Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club Camp office to condole the death of Arif Khan, a cameraman of ARY TV channel, in Karachi bombing.   Advertising
Letter to Editor “Discourage misleading advertisements”
Saima Moizuddin, “Misleading advertising is often discussed in these pages. Recently, I came across another case and I was astounded at the sheer audacity of the advertiser. In trying to sell its salt through a TV ad, the company which produces salt in its factory shows ‘research’ taking place in a special research institute. That is all very well, except upon a bit of scrutiny, I found that there is no such institute anywhere in the world! The salt advertised may or may not be 100 percent pure as claimed in the ad, but what is sure is that the advertising is dishonest. Is there nothing that can be done to prevent such deception which is also prevalent in many other ads? Stronger consumer protection laws, along with better implementation, are necessary to send a message to dishonest advertisers.
