Letter to Editor on Media commercialism
Noreen Shams from Karachi says in the past, print and electronic media served to empower the people. Today, however, the media only serve as a means of perpetuating commercial objectives through advertising products, attitudes and lifestyles. Wedding and lifestyle shows are only applicable to a certain class of society, and have little impact on the people in general. Big budget dramas exhibit royal houses, luxuries, designer wardrobes and jewellery etc to create a demand for these products.
