Attack on Media Madrassa students detain TV crew |
| |
Students of a Madrassa near Kasur detained three Geo television employees on Friday when they were spotted filming the madrassa following complaints of two missing students. The detainees were later released at the intervention of police, Geo television reported. The channel reported that Shaharyar and cameraman Irfan were filming the Jamia Rahimia in Jhamabar for a story involving two missing girl students from the madrassa. Male students, seeing the reporter, came outside and snatched the camera from Rasheed. They forced the two and their driver into the madrassa and tortured them. The channel contacted police who obtained their release and directed the channel to obtain police protection before filming madrassas.

Journalist accuses Pakistani madrassa of attack |
| |
An Ontario journalist was beaten up and threatened with death this week in what is being called a revenge attack for publishing articles critical of a Pakistan-based Muslim group, the Toronto Star reported. Jawaad Faizi, 35, was pulling into the driveway of his editor’s Mississauga home on Tuesday night when a car pulled up behind him. He had not yet turned off the engine or taken off his seatbelt when he heard the sound of a blast. Before he knew what it was, the sound came again – this time it was his front windshield being smashed. “Three men began assaulting him with bats and yelling Punjabi profanities at him,” he said. “When the assailants saw me calling 911, they fled,” he added. Faizi, who worked as a journalist in Pakistan before coming to Canada in 2002, has been writing columns for the Pakistan Post, a Mississauga newspaper, for more than two years. “It was Idara Minhaj-ul-Quran,” Faizi said in an interview yesterday. “(Attackers) were asking why you publish news about our leader,” he said.

Radio Fm listening | Money or fame? |
| |
Every single day while watching TV, we see people, people who we usually aren't acquainted with on a personal level, but we eventually begin to recognise them and feel as though we know them. We see many artists showcasing their talent on various global TV channels and the amount of times we see them is proof to us of how popular or unpopular they are. Sometimes we see the really good ones working simultaneously with various production teams and on various projects. But of course their presence on different mediums or TV channels depends on the structure of their contracts.

Music Altaf Hussain slammed No singing, dancing anymore, says Abdul Aziz |
| |
Lal Masjid khateeb Maulana Abdul Aziz alleged Friday that Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain was behind the killing of thousands of innocent people in Karachi. Delivering the Friday sermon here, the cleric accused the MQM of staging a rally against Lal Masjid at the government's behest. Aziz advised Altaf to hold talks with clerics. "We will prove to him that we only want supremacy of the Holy Quran and Sunnah. If demanding enforcement of the shariat-i-Muhammadi is a crime, we will continue to commit this crime," he vowed. "Not even a single person has been injured during our three-month long campaign. On the other hand, scores of murder cases have been registered against Altaf," Aziz said. The cleric also warned that dancing and singing would not be allowed in the country any more.

Telecommunication Cell phones, internet remain suspended for 20 hours: Fibre optics damaged |
| |
The service of Ufone and Internet remained suspended for more than 20 hours in parts of Lahore and Gujrat when some ‘unscrupulous elements’ reportedly cut the PTCL fibre optics here on Friday. Hundreds of users faced inconvenience throughout the day and tried to contact its help line for inquiry but it was also not responding, reportedly owing to the problem. “Earlier in the day, I thought it was a routine connectivity problem, but as neither the outgoing call nor SMS facility was working, it troubled me a lot,” said Ufone subscriber Hasan Raza. Officials said the PTCL fibre optics was damaged on Zafar Ali Road, Gulberg, early on Thursday morning. “That point provides up-linking to the Ufone and Internet service in parts of Lahore and Gujrat.” They, however, ruled out the possibility that any of their competitors was involved in the damage.

Letter to editor “Phone virus" |
| |
RECENTLY, the entire country was gripped by the trauma of a ’killer’ phone virus. According to people who were spreading the news, there was a new virus in the mobile world which causes people to get anonymous phone calls and die after listening to the call. Let me assure you, there is no such thing. This month the highly acclaimed author Stephen King published a new book by the name of “Cell”. The plot of the book is this: in the future people are killed and transformed into zombies (soulless bodies) by people from the underworld using cellphone communication, exactly in the same way as the present rumour suggests.

The classic phone by Numair Shahzada |
| |
More and more consumers are using their mobile phones for tasks such as downloading music, streaming video, browsing the Internet or receiving emails with attachments. Everyone possesses favorite phone though, and not just a particular phone but a particular type of phone. Some like them thin and some like them to be the size of laptops! Some people like complicated high tech phones and others like them simple and elegant. There's so much diversity and so much to choose from and this has obviously resulted in a lot of segmentation with markets. I too have a favorite type of phone, I like fun phones, and the compact Nokia 6120 classic phone would make all the tasks I enjoy doing faster and easier by utilizing HSDPA (High Speed Downlink Packet Access), an evolutionary technology offering downloads up to 10 times faster than over usual WCDMA networks.

Virus panic by Sajeela Ahmed |
| |
We all have heard the word virus many times in our lives. Viruses are those invisible things that are so hard to describe. In addition to biological viruses the ones that could make your computer completely break down and affect mobile phones are a new phenomenon. A few days ago I was astonished to hear reports as to people who had been killed by phone viruses. I wasn't sure if this could be true or not but the first question that arose in my mind was how could it be possible? How could a harmless looking message from a peculiar number cause the death of a person? I could not bring myself to believe that there was a possible wavelength and frequency levels that could have such a devastating effect. Later on though, I was sitting with my colleagues when she suddenly exclaimed that she had received a warning message.
