FM LISTENING: The joys of Father's Day

Nothing sums up the significance of Father's Day better than Sigmund Freud's saying that “I cannot think of any need more important or stronger in childhood as the need for a father's protection.” 18th June is celebrated as a Father's Day and this occasion brings more happiness if one is lucky enough to have a kind, considerate, cheering and supportive father.

OPINION:

Hayatullah's murder: time to stand up

Farhatullah Babar
The front-page report in The News on June 17 with the picture of slain Hayatullah Khan is more than a tragic account of a journalist murdered in the line of duty. It is also a call to stand up and speak up against rising incidents of mysterious disappearances followed by torture and lately by murder.

Will the govt deliver?

From Absar Alam
On Tuesday, the journalists continued their boycott of the National Assembly proceedings until afternoon. It ended with a pledge made by Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, on behalf of the government, that all their demands would be met.
So far so good. But the real test for the government and the journalist community lies in the follow up. The journalists need to continue to stay united so that the government deliver on what it said and the government needs to prove that it fulfils its promises.
