48 journalists attacked in six months: report
Media in Pakistan faced at least 48 recorded incidents of attacks and harassment during the first six months (January 1 to June 30) of the current year in which two journalists were murdered and 28 attacked or tortured, says a report issued by an international media NGO here on Friday.

Two journalists were murdered and 28 were injured in at least 48 reported attacks on Pakistani journalists in the first half (January 1-June 30) of the current year, a non-government organisation (NGO) said on Friday. According to statistics compiled by Internews, an international NGO working for the promotion of free media in the world, a total of 66 journalists were targeted in the 48 incidents, in which 25 people were kidnapped or detained and 11 were harassed or threatened.

Journalists observe hunger strike
July 21 2006: Several journalists from Badin and Hyderabad observed a hunger strike on Tuesday outside Hyderabad Press Club in protest against the disappearance of a journalist, Mehruddin Marfi. Marri, a correspondent for the Sindhi Daily Kawish, went missing after he went to a police station in Thatta on June 27.

CPNE team meets Aurakzai
NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Muhammad Jan Aurakzai (Retd) has said that restoration and maintenance of peace in Fata was vital for the socio-economic uplift of tribal area. Talking to a delegation of the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE) here at Governor House on Thursday he said the government was taking concrete initiatives to ensure peace and establish writ of the government.

Cable operators to go on strike from 25 th
Cable subscribers will look at blank screens from 7 to 10 every night from 25th of this month, warned cable operators protesting excise duty of Rs 25 per subscriber levied in budget 2006-07. Office bearers of Cable Operators Association of Pakistan, who had gathered from all over the country, announced this in a press conference held on Friday at Lahore Press Club.

Pak media asks India to take larger view
