Copies of Dawn set on fire
Copies of Dawn were set on fire in front of the Hyderabad press club by some people who had snatched them from news-stands and hawkers in Qasimabad taluka and some other areas of the city on Sunday morning. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the incident. However, an unidentified caller telephoned the Hyderabad press club and told the receptionist that Dawn would be taught a lesson. The incident was reported to the Cantonment police station. President of the Hyderabad press club Shahid Shaikh condemned the incident and described it as an attack on freedom of the press. The Hyderabad Union of Journalists also condemned the attack.

Pirated books — a blessing in disguise!
There is a lot of hue and cry about the widespread trade of pirated books in the country as the publishing houses are at pains to curb this phenomenon but the practice is flourishing unabated. There is an unending debate going on between different stakeholders having different interests and varied outlook as to whether or not this trade should be or could be curbed entirely. This practice is not limited to Pakistan alone, the phenomenon is common in most of the developing countries. High prices of original books and poverty of the people of these countries make it impossible for them to purchase such costly books and they are left with no option but to buy the pirated books. The difference in price is so huge that one opts to purchase the cheap pirated books.

Ramazan is the only month throughout the year in which one can notice an alteration in the regular transmission of FM channels for the true spirit of the holy month is reflected in it. LETTERS TO EDITOR
Why no coverage?
This is to bring to your attention the ongoing ICC champion's trophy which is not being covered even by PTV. I think PTV is still watched by almost 60 per cent of our population, especially in the rural areas. In many cities a large portion of residents do not have cable connections. Cricket is popular entertainment for us and should be shown by PTV.
