Letter to Editor “On media freedom” |
| |
Gulsher Panhwer, “Recently General Musharraf said that those who say that media has got its freedom due to its own struggle are entirely wrong and he should be given the credit for that. In fact, Musharraf deserves full credit for the freedom he has awarded to media. If he wants to impose curbs on media freedom today, he can easily do so. There would be some resistance but looking at the Pakistan’s history, when civilian rulers had trampled upon the freedoms of the media, the protest by media men had usually petered out after some time. A considerable number of media groups learned to coexist with the state and those who were steadfast were coerced and their advertisement were stopped.”

Radio Fm Listening | Where there is a will there is a way by Sehrish Wasif |
| |
"Your voice is not appropriate for this medium at all. This shortcoming, I am sorry to say, will never let you become successful in this industry. Therefore it would be better for you to skip this idea from your mind and try your luck somewhere else." This is a sample of what Ahmed Bilal commonly known as AB had to hear when his passion for radio forced him to try his luck again and again in the industry. Such dissuading remarks would have certainly discouraged most of the people, but that was not the case with AB. His enthusiasm instead of subsiding kept on surging until he finally got his big chance. Advertising OF This & That | Not all billboards are safely placed |
| |
Over three months ago, the Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister directed the Parks and Horticulture Authority, Lahore, to constitute teams of experts to check the strength of billboards and neon signs from the standpoint of public safety. The Minister asked the Director-General of PHA to submit a detailed report to him within a week. In his letter addressed to the DG PHA, the Minister said that the billboards and neon signs, which were not strong enough to withstand the pressure generated by windstorms, should be removed forthwith in order to eliminate any danger to life and property. |
