APNS slams govt for using ads as lever to gag press
The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) has severely criticised the government for using advertisements as a lever to control the press and curb freedom of expression which is a fundamental right enshrined in the Constitution. A meeting of the APNS executive committee held here on Thursday under the chairmanship of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman said that a ban on government advertisements for Dawn and some other newspapers had adversely affected the government-press relations and reflected badly on the track record of the government on press freedom.

He said that since “Maula Jatt”, made in the eighties, became a big hit and did a roaring business, a trend developed among moviemakers to go for such pictures. Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain said many films were being made to depict people as supermen who were being shown using Kalashnikovs, repeaters, sten-guns and other weapons mercilessly. “What kind of education are we imparting to our youth?” he asked.

Fm listening | The not so great return
Since the establishment of private radio channels, the 'coming' and 'going' of RJs is a continuous process. However, their sudden disappearance from the channels depresses many of their die-heard fans, the ones who listen to the radio just because of them. Those RJs are especially missed who somehow captivate their listeners with the aura that their voices, presenting style, conversations and everything else about them generates.
