87 illegal FM stations in NWFP shut down
Police have shut down 87 FM radio stations which were operating illegally from religious seminaries and mosques in various districts of the NWFP, officials said on Monday. Law-enforcement officials said they had shut down the radio stations after conducting joint raids with representatives of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on seminaries and mosques. They said they had earlier told the illegal radio station operators to cease their activities through official notices.

Media most effective accountability tool, says Durrani
Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani has said the media is the most effective accountability tool and the government benefits from the criticism by print as well as electronic media. Addressing a 32-member student delegation from the Mass Communication Department of Islamia University, Bahawalpur , Monday, Senator Durrani said the government would soon introduce a media policy which would not only facilitate the journalistic community but also help strengthen credibility.

FM LISTENING: Terrific promo, poor show
‘Catch Tony Adam live from London studios, every Saturday from 7pm to 9 pm' was too catchy a promo to prod me to lend my ears to the show. With many thoughts prowling in my mind about the show, I keenly tuned in to Power 99 FM last Saturday to verify as to in what way Mr. Tony was different from our local DJs. The show's start had nothing extraordinary, dissimilar and terrific about it.
