Afghan writer’s detention case:
  The Peshawar High Court (PHC) directed the NWFP advocate general (AG) on Tuesday to submit a report today (Wednesday) on Afghan writer Abdur Rahim Muslim Dost’s detention under the Khyber Agency administration, which later shifted him to the Peshawar Central Prison.

  Media should help govt, NGOs in eradicating child labour
  Participants at a one-day capacity building workshop on ‘Activating Media in Combating Worst Forms of Child Labour in Pakistan’ appealed to media persons to help the government, as well as national and international organizations, in curbing child labour through their writings, documentaries and awareness campaigns.

New PHWU office-bearers take oath
  Justice Syed Deedar Hussain Shah, retired judge of the Supreme Court, on Monday administered the oath of office to newly elected office-bearers of the Pakistan Herald Workers’ Union (PHWU) in a ceremony held here at a local hotel. Addressing the participants of the ceremony, Justice Shah demanded that the authorities concerned implement the wage award immediately for the betterment of workers and owners of the press industry.

  APNF assures their confidence on Abul Rahim
  All Pakistan Newspaper seller federation assures their confidence on the leadership. APNF leader Abul Rahim and members met federation Secretary General Tikka Khan here in Islamabad last day. More over they said they have no concern with the fake federation named Akhbaar Faroshaan.

  The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has expressed with concern that participants of some of the TV talk shows wrongfully accused the authority of granting permission to Maulana Fazlullah of Swat to run his FM radio station in Fazagat.

  Wow! Brad Pitt is hosting a show on FM. That's really exciting. But what type of show is he hosting. Something that will take my heart away or something that will shake the listeners or make other RJs of the FM channels feel like they are on losing end. No! Actually he is also doing what other RJs do on radio like playing songs and sharing views on a topic. Ooh No! That's really disappointing, I thought he might be doing some thing different that would make him different form other RJs

Bookfair starts at PIDE
  A two-day bookfair has started at Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), which was inaugurated by PIDE Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Noushin Mehmood. Books on economics, statistics, population sciences and management sciences have been displayed in the fair, which has been visited by a number of researchers and students. The visitors termed the fair an opportunity to select and buy books of their choice and interest. They demanded that the Higher Education Commission (HEC) encourage such exhibitions within the academic institutions and at public places to introduce to the people the latest research in various areas.

  Harry Potter breaks sale records in Pakistan
  The long-awaited seventh and last edition of the Harry Potter series titled “Harry Potter and the Deadly Hollows” by JK Rowling has made it to book-shelves is breaking book sales records in Pakistan. International retailers of the book report that advance orders of 2.2 million worldwide have broken the advance booking record of 1.5 million set by the sixth book. On July 21, the book’s first day of sales, 11 million copies were sold in the UK and US alone, breaking the record of 9 million held by the sixth book. On July 23 initial sales worldwide were reported at 72.1 million copies.

Big ideas for a small art form
  Art institutes in the country have recently trained several talented miniature painters who have modernized and reshaped this art form. One exhibition that has opened at the Chawkandi Art Gallery, is reflective of this change. Amna Hashmi, Abdul Rahim and Amjad Ali Talpur are young graduates from the National College of Arts (NCA) who have majored in miniature painting.
