Govt may bar media from NA committees
Mulls introducing ‘Code of Ethics' to regulate media reporting
Top government officials and members of the military establishment have been so irked by press coverage of National Assembly (NA) standing committees that they have proposed barring journalists from attending them, official sources told Daily Times on Monday. They said that NA speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain had recently held talks with chairpersons of standing committees open to the media to draw up a strategy to deal with the ‘problem'.

Opposition and journalists express concern at possible ban
Members of parliament belonging to the opposition and journalists have expressed concern at reports that the government might bar media representatives from attending meetings of the National Assembly's (NA) standing committees. Raja Pervez Ashraf of the Pakistan People's Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) told Daily Times that the parliament is a public institution and the people had a right to know “what their representatives are doing there”.

4 Indian and Pakistani journalists killed in 2006
Four Indian and Pakistani journalists have been killed in the first six months of 2006 and national and international media organisations have condemned the Indian and Pakistani governments for their deaths. Data compiled by the South Asian Free Media Association (SAFMA) on the killing and kidnapping of journalists, especially, reporters, states that two reporters each have been killed in India and Pakistan.

FM LISTENING: Faisal's success at the 100th episode
Last Saturday, the most long running programme of Power 99 FM completed its 100th episode. Congrats to Faisal, who was hosting the show, and the entire team of Power 99 FM.? The promo of the programme was running for many weeks, which did a lot to increase the expectations of listeners regarding the special episode. But before the celebration there was a premiere.

Only Indo-Pak ventures to be released here
"We will allow the screening of those Indian films in Pakistan which will have a mixed cast from both the countries ( India , Pakistan )," said Ziauddin Khatak, the chairman of Pakistan Censor Board. "Any Indian film having a pure Indian cast will have to apply for a special permission for its release in Pakistan ," the chairman added.

Limitations of reporting

One can give a number of reasons for the new that report that the situation is getting out of control in the troubled North and South Waziristan areas. The cold-blooded murder of journalist and photographer Hayatullah is one horrible example. The argument that media support could not be garnered because the government did not allow journalists to report from trouble areas of North and South Waziristan seems to be only partially correct.
