  Changing the blasphemy law
THE state minister for information had announced on Saturday that Pakistan’s minorities would get good news on Christmas in the form of a review of discriminatory laws, which included the blasphemy law. Although the promised review did not come on Monday, one hopes that it will be taken up soon and the government has not changed its mind about it. Adopted in 1986 as Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code, the amendment made it a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment for anyone who defiled the Holy Quran or the name of the Holy Prophet.
