Journalists held for interviewing wanted cleric
Three tribal journalists who were kept in detention for more than 24 hours were arrested because they interviewed a wanted cleric in Khyber Agency, the Tribal Union of Journalists told Daily Times on Wednesday. Khalil Afridi of Khabrian, Sudhir Afridi of The Frontier Post and Abu Zar Afridi of Express were arrested after they interviewed Mangal Bagh Afridi, head of the Lashkare Islam.

PEMRA cancels 5 radio licences
PEMRA has cancelled five FM Radio licences given to three companies for failing to Thal International Airwaves (Pvt) Ltd in Layyah, Tele Films Islamabad and Sound Waves (Pvt) Ltd in Karachi .

SC issues notice to Punjab govt: Plots for journalists
The Supreme Court on Wednesday issued notice to the Punjab administration on a petition regarding provincial government's decision to allot plots only to the members of the Lahore Press Club. During a chamber hearing, Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry issued notice to the respondents — the Punjab government and the president Lahore Press Club (LPC).

CM to inaugurate PTV centre in Multan
Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi will inaugurate the PTV centre in Multan during his next visit and the centre will start transmissions. The management of Pakistan Television Corporation has hired a building on Sher Shah Road in Multan Cantt and set up some studios where documentary programmes will be prepared in a limited number.

Peshawar 's old cinema faces demolition
One of the city's oldest cinema-houses will soon turn into rubble due to constant loss. Falak Sair, built in the ‘30s on the main Saddar Road , was sold some three months ago for Rs130 million to a group of local businessmen. The building, spread over two kanals, will be demolished and it is likely to be replaced by a commercial plaza, one of the buyers said.

Proceedings in Hayatullah murder case should be in open court
Political parties, representatives of human rights organisations and journalists on Wednesday demanded that the judicial commission investigating tribal journalist Hayatullah's murder hold its proceedings in an open court instead of an in-camera session.
