  APNS elects office-bearers
  “The APNS AGM has elected Hameed Haroon of Daily Dawn, Jamil Athar of Daily Tijarat, Iminan Shahid of Daily Khabrain, Muhammad Aslam Kazi of Daily Kawish, Syed Sarmad Ali of Daily Jang and Umer Mujeeb Shami of Daily Pakistan, Lahore as President, Senior Vice President, Vice President, Secretary General, Joint Secretary and Finance Secretary of the APNS respectively.Earlier the Annual General Council chaired by acting President, Mujeeb-ur-Rahman Shami, approved the report of the Executive Committee for the Preceding year as well as the Annual Accounts of the Society.

  Govt-press relations deteriorating, says APNS
  The All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) on Thursday said that government-press relations witnessed deterioration during the current year and were now less cordial than before. The annual general council meeting of the APNS said that the Ministry of Information remained indifferent to problems faced by the print media and issues relating to press laws remained unresolved.

  RSF disputes Durrani’s statement on free media
  A global media rights group has disputed Federal Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani’s statement that “Pakistan had become a free-media model in South Asia”. “While it is true the (Pakistani) authorities have permitted the creation of privately-owned TV stations in recent years, Pakistan is far from being a model,” said Reporters Without Border (Reporters Sans Frontiers) in a letter to the minister on Thursday.

  Watchdog slams curbs on Pakistan media
  A Paris based watchdog Thursday blasted Pakistani government claims the country was a model for media freedom and criticized pressure placed on a leading newspapers. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) took odds with Information Minister Durrani’s claim this week that due to bold initiatives Pakistan a model of free media in South Asian region. ‘How can claim this when recent weeks have been marked by grave acts of censorship and violence against independent media.” RSF secretary said in open letter to Minister for Information Durrani.

  Pemra foils bid to establish illegal FM radio station
  Pakistan Electronic Media Regularity Authority (Pemra) spokesman on Thursday said an attempt to establish an illegal FM radio station in Islamabad has been foiled by Pemra authorities. "No illegal broadcast in any form is allowed under the Pemra law. The authority takes immediate action wherever any illegality comes to its notice," said the spokesman in a statement issued here.

  Illegal FM radio station thwarted
  The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) on Thursday said that an attempt to establish illegal FM radio station in federal capital has been foiled by authority. “No illegal broadcast in any form is allowed under the PEMRA law.” Said a spokesman.

  160 illegal FM station closed down in NWFP
  Government has closed down 160 illegal FM Stations in NWFP and Equipments have been seized. Federal government sources have revealed that action was taken in Federal Administrated Tribal Area (FATA) and Provincial Administrative Tribal Areas (PATA) against 160 illegal FM stations. A proposal is under consideration that PEMRA ordinance should be extended for FATA and PATA.

  CJ manhandling case: tribunal likely to submit report soon
  The one-member inquiry tribunal, headed by Justice Ijaz Afzal, Judge of the Peshawar High Court, Thursday concluded the process of recording witnesses' statements in the manhandling case of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. The tribunal is likely to submit its recommendations to the Supreme Court registrar in a couple of days. Niaz Muhammad said that those who have recorded their statements before the tribunal were the IGP, Islamabad, Chaudhry Iftikhar; Chief Commissioner Khalid Pervez; Deputy Commissioner Chaudhry Muhammad Ali; SSP, Islamabad, Captain (Retd) Zafar Iqbal; DSP I-9 Circle Jamil Ahmed Hashmi; Rukhsar Mehdi, SHO; ASI Muhammad Siraj; Iftikhar Chaudhry reporter daily ‘Express’, Muhammad Jamshed, cameraman daily ‘Express’; Sajjad Qurashi photographer, daily ‘The Nation’; Sabir Shakir, reporter ARY TV; Khalid Jamil and Muhammad Irfan, reporter and cameraman Aaj TV; Yasir Malik, reporter daily ‘Khabrian’; Shakeel Anjum, daily ‘The News’, and Muhammad Latif, cameraman PTV.

  TV transmitter for Afghanistan
  Pakistan is facilitating Afghanistan in media field with training and technology to further augment fraternal ties with the brotherly nation. This was stated by federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad. Ali Durrani at a ceremony held at the PTV headquarters in connection with the handing over of a Rs4.6 million TV transmitter with allied equipment as a gift to Afghanistan for installation in Kandahar on Thursday.

  Comparing papers Dr Masooda Bano
  This interest in Pakistan's political developments seems quite interesting especially when in general Indian newspapers carry much less of their own politics than do Pakistani papers. Unlike Pakistani papers, whose front pages are always devoted to the statements by political leaders, Indian papers often carry more socially relevant news coverage. In fact, because of this they appear quite dull as compared to Pakistani papers..

  Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman award for Mushtaq Yousufi
  Mushtaq Yousufi, renowned humorist and story writer, was awarded, the 14th Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman National Solidarity Award on the occasion of the 23rd Sardar Ali Sabri death anniversary on Thursday. The event was organised by the Sardar Ali Sabri Memorial Society in collaboration with the Jang Group of Newspapers, in recognition of his 44 years of contribution to writing.

  Allotments for journalists
  In Sector I-15, CDA conducted draw for allotment of plots of one percent quota reserved for journalists. Allotee’s have been advised to submit Identity card’s photo copy and home address to Deputy Director Estate Management CDA Saqib Majeed Malik. CDA Member Estate supervised the draw. PFUJ leader Haji Nawaz Raza was present on the occasion.

  Sardar Sabri remembered
  Speakers paid glowing tributes to late Sardar Ali Sabri, a renowned journalist and worker of the Pakistan movement at a local hotel on Thursday. The meeting was organised by Sardar Ali Sabri Memorial Society and presided over by federal Information Minister Mohammad Ali Durrani. Humor writer Mushtaq Ahmed Yusufi was conferred the Mir Khalilur Rehman National Solidarity Award while the University of Karachi position-holders of the 2005 and 2006 batches of the Mass Communication Department were given medals.
