Larkana shut in protest; top policemen suspended: Inquiry officer appointed; Benazir, Nawaz, Arbab condole Sangi's death

The city remained shut on Tuesday on a call of the journalist community to protest and mourn the killing of photojournalist Munir Ahmed Sangi in crossfire between two tribal groups in the Bakapur village near here the other day.

Probe ordered

Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, while taking strict notice of the death of a cameraman, Munir Sangi of Sindhi TV Channel KTN, suspended DPO Larkana Ghulam Rasool Domki, ASP Nisar Brohi and SHO Ali Raza Shah.

Cameraman killed while covering tribal violence

The Committee to Protect Journalists condemns the killing of Munir Ahmed Sangi, a cameraman for the Sindhi-language Kawish Television Network (KTN). Sangi was shot on Monday afternoon while covering a gunfight between members of the Unar and Abro tribes in the town of Larkana , in southeast Pakistan 's Sindh district, according to local media reports.

Film conference will help film industry, says GG Jamal

Culture minister says conference will be held in first week of June

The Federal Culture Ministry is holding a National Film Conference in the city in the first week of June to discuss how to improve Pakistan 's crumbling film industry. It is also planning to allocate land to people to construct new and well-equipped cinemas, GG Jamal, culture minister, told Daily Times on Tuesday.

TIMS arranges 'heavenly' musical performance

For the last event of the season, the Islamabad Music Society (TIMS) organised a programme featuring sitar virtuoso, Ghulam Farid Nizami. The function was held in the cool environs of the Hunza Room at the Serena Hotel , courtesy the management because of its policy of patronising those who are struggling to keep dying arts alive. Nizami was accompanied by Mohammed Ajmal, virtuoso of the tabla, who is a regular player at TIMS functions and needs no introduction.
